AMERICA Needs to Raise Taxes
Yes you heard me correctly. I said it and the facts show that America needs to raise taxes. I can hear the screams from the greedy, uncaring and selfish on both sides of the political spectrum and from my favorites the Tea Baggers.
I am talking about federal income taxes – we need to raise federal income taxes.
The facts are:
1. We spend $1 trillion on the military and we will not cut this spending and in fact it is going up each year
2. Our federal spending (without all the bail out money Bush committed to the budget) is $500 billion per year over our tax revenue (taxes)
3. Our existing federal debt is over $12 trillion and going up
4. No one, Republicans or Democrats will cut any spending programs
5. The rich pay only an average of 22% federal tax rate
6. Warren Buffett brags he pays just a 17% federal income tax rate
7. The average US taxpayer pays an average tax rate of just 16%
8. About 57% of wage earners pay no federal incomes
9. American will increase their foreign military bases from over 1,000 to 1,500 over the next four years – this costs money
10. We will need money to attack Iran
11. US corporations avoid paying income taxes of over $300 billion each year and this is going up as they hold taxable income in off-shore accounts
12. 200,000 Americans have secret Swiss bank accounts and are avoiding paying over $100 billion in taxes according to the IRS – this is increasing each year
13. Most people in the US are too dumb to realize that borrowing is more expensive than taxing – we borrow the over $500 billion each year and pay interest on the debt
We need a little honesty from everyone regarding this mess. I know we can’t get any from the Republicans and the Tea Party, but the rest of us should demand we pay for what we buy. If we want to buy the most expensive military in the world and spend more than the rest of the world combined, we should pay for this not borrow it and force our children to pay for our dishonesty.
The myth that any politician will cut spending should have been exposed by the Bush administration when they had total Republican control of congress for six years and never past a balanced budget. They borrowed over $3 trillion dollars and added it to the national debt, more than any liberal Democrat in our history.
The philosophy of most Americans is, “Don’t cut any government programs, lower my taxes and get the money from someone else.” This is dishonest.
It sounds a lot like a sign I saw in a bar in Alaska; “We screw the other guy and pass the savings on to you.” I think that was Sara Palin’s motto.
We are now in the process of blaming everyone but ourselves. The Tea Baggers voted for Bush and he was the biggest spender and borrower in our history.
The idea we can reduce taxes that are already the lowest on the western world and cut programs and remain a civilized country is total non-sense.
One of my friends is now a Tea Bagger. He went to public schools (paid for by taxes), graduated from a public university (paid for by taxes), drives his expensive car on public roads (paid for by taxes), uses the library (paid for by taxes), is protected by the military, local police and fire departments (paid for by taxes) takes tax breaks for mortgage interest he pays on two homes, is one Social Security and Medicare and he wants his taxes on his retirements income of over a $100k reduced.
He now wants to not fund public education – his kids are out of school. What a guy – like most Tea Baggers he doesn’t give a damn about his neighbor.
When are we going to be honest about the issue of taxes? My guess is never. We need to raise the tax rate on income over $150,000 to 50% and limit the capital gains tax use to $2 million lifetime. If we did this we have a chance of getting our budget balanced and most Americans would not be affected. We also have to change the Republican law that allows US corporations to hold profits off-shore and avoid paying $300 billion per year in corporate incomes taxes.
Matthew 22:39
39"The second is like it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'
40" On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets."
Matthew 7:12 GOLDEN RULE -
12 “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”
John 14:15 “If ye love me keep my commandments.”

Look into the laffer curve. Higher Taxes will cause more people to cheat. We need to cut spending by half. No matter what happens there is going to be hard economic times. Simply fact is it is time to get out of personal debt and perpare for the worset and hope for the best.
thejcrevelator2, you are right on. I wrote a hub on the same topic. The truth is, we need to make tough choices in cutting spending and raising taxes. Thank you for also pointing out military spending. Neither republicans nor democrats will touch the topic for fear the other party will 'smear' them ("Obama is cutting the military, he is weaking the country, etc")
We pay 200 million dollars a year to run a base in Germany with 45000 troops. This doesn't include the money the troops spend at local restaurants, the money we pay to have vehicles repaired by German mechanics, etc, etc. We have over 1000 military installations across the world. Lastly, thanks for pointing out off shore tax loopholes. How can exxon mobile record the largest corporate profits in the history of any company and pay no taxes?! Our lawmakers work for the corporations, it is no longer "we the people"
Even if we completely eradicate all military operations and protected our nation with nuclear treats, we will still be digging through rock bottom. I do agree the military spends too much, but our problems origin is far from one source. We can’t blame it all on the rich either. Just because some guy makes 100 million a year why should he pay a higher percentage of taxes than someone working at McDonald’s? When someone making 20k a year pays 4k on taxes, but after EIC they get back 7.5k. 57% of wage earners don’t pay taxes. The truth is America is under taxed. The government hands out too much money. The average American is too stupid to really understand what’s going on, and the ones who are smart enough, just battle each other over divergence of interest. Instead of working together, they work against each other. We as Americans have grown lazy and idle minded, most don’t know what’s going on in the world. And to top it off further education is getting more expensive, it’s one of the fastest growing businesses in America. Why is educating are youth a business? It should be an investment in our future; it’s a matter of national securities.

I have to applaud you for this bub. I am sick and tired of people whining about paying taxes when corporations skirt their responsibility, individuals pay less taxes in the US than any industrialized nation but both receive tremendous benefit from the services, infrastructure, and economic incentives provided them by this government.
The top marginal rate has been as high as 94% in this country, it is now 35%. The President wants to raise it the 37.9% and these so called patriots call it redistribution of wealth.
