Most AMERICANS don’t care

The fact is that most Americans simply don’t care.  I know that seems strange to those who do care.

Every objective measure tells us that most Americans don’t care about the following.

·         Military spending, now twice what it was in 2000 and growing

·         Our on-going occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan

·         Our planned attack of both Iran and Libya

·         Our support for dictators in Saudi Arabia, Communist China and in about two dozen other nations

·         Our continued bombing of civilians in remote areas of Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan and a few other countries

·         Our continued expansion of our foreign military bases into Africa and South America

·         The Republican attack on unions

·         The Republican attack on all social programs for the poor, children and the old

·         The Republican support for more tax cuts for Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and the 400 American billionaires’ and the thousands multi-millionaires

·         The Republican attempts at total deregulation of corporations, including the removal of clear air and water laws

·         The government engineered gap in income and wealth that is killing the middle class

·         The fact that almost everything we use is made in Communist China a dictatorship

·         That the vast majority of funding for political candidates comes from the richest people and corporations

·         The fact the wages for the average American worker are falling and the price of food and gasoline is rising

·         The fact that Wall Street crooks took tens of billions in profits and forced our economy into near depression

In fact, most Americans eligible to vote - don’t.  Yes about 55% vote in presidential elections, but almost half stay home.  Many local elections only get one in four.

The press asked Ben Franklin, as he came out of the meeting to write a US Constitution, “what form of government do we had.”  He said, “A democracy if you can keep it.”

In order for a democracy to work, people have to vote.  People have to be involved and educated and make decisions based on what is best for the country.

The fewer people who vote the less real democracy we have.  When the funding is controlled by one group all democracy is at risk.

That’s my opinion.  What say you?

I sadly think the elitist in American society are being rewarded by the American public without the public even realizing it. The elite continue to write the rules, they adapt and change them so only those who think like them can succeed. Those with the most power and wealth are not going to let anything change or alter their power and wealth. It takes massive protests to bring about real change. It takes "collective bargaining" to get and keep decent wages. The average worker in America is making less because the private unions have been destroyed and those standing alone have no power to demand anything from the companies they work for. I guess I would vote, but as long as it takes more and more money to run these campaigns, the candidates will all have to bankrolled by someone - and those someones are the ones who have the power and wealth that the laws already protect. Peace
