We WON – What NOW?

It is true that our military genius - General McChrystal was right 15,000 well armed Marines, supported by aircraft, tanks, high tech drones and satellite technology can defeat 500 to 1,000 rag tag local untrained Taliban.

WELL DONE – heroic fighters for FREEDOM.

The New York Times reported the well armed US leaders met with the local Marja residents and they told the armed US warriors, “If you bring in the Afghan cops we will fight them.”

Yes the people of Afghanistan hate the Afghan Army, cops and other corrupt government people out to rob them.

Let’s take a look at the NEW US strategy for Afghanistan.

The Obama/McChrystal stated objectives are:

1.  Build an effective government

2.  Stop the rampant corruption

3.  Provide security for the local population

4.  Turn the security over to local army and police

5.  Make sure the Taliban is eliminate

The facts on the ground are:

1.  The Karzai government is corrupt and has no support outside Kabul – the locals in Marja hate them

2.  The Afghan army and police are corrupt and rob the locals when they are in charge

3.  The locals would rather have the Taliban because they eliminate the corruption and armed robbery of the corrupt army and the police

4.  The US is putting US Marines in charge to make the above happen.  These troops have been trained to do one thing – KILL THE ENEMY.  They are always well armed and looking for trouble.  They have no training or experience building a government or social structure.

5.  The troops don’t speak the language, they worship a different God, they don’t understand the local culture and can’t wait to get the hell out of Marja and get home.

My 12 year old neighbor kid would take a look at this and tell you it will not work.  We have now entered the last stage of denial – where many dedicated US troops will die or be wounded and many more innocent Afghan civilians will be killed because the US military never says NO.  They will keep fighting forever unless the civilians stop the war.

I saw it in Viet Nam.  America refuses to accept defeat even if the continued fighting is in vain, costs billions in taxpayer dollars America doesn’t have and causes untold suffering.  We will continue to support a corrupt government we hope will change.

Year ago I started a business and my attorney told me one thing.  Be careful who you partner with because if they are corrupt, dishonest, and you can’t trust them they will break your company.  The same thing is true with governments.  America never seems to learn that support for corrupt and dishonest government with no support of the people will not work.

The right-wing nut-jobs are screaming for more war as we fail in Iraq and Afghanistan.  They have Obama so scared he will not pull out of either Iraq or Afghanistan and will start a war with Iran this year.

America – hold on the ride gets worse, the killing will increase and tens of billions of your tax dollars will be wasted and stolen for no good reason.
