Why REAL Christians CAN’T Vote Republican

Dear Mr. Happy,

You lost my respect when you wrote "but ya, the majority of conservatives are pretty heartless, exceptions do exist." Such easy, broad-stroked statements like this are the reason politics is so polarized. I don't know but I would guess you don't have many close, conservative friends. I pray regularly to find people I can help in some way and i know many others in fortunate circumstances who do the same and we all would identify ourselves as conservatives.

And thejcrevelator2, are you a Prophet revealing JC to us with such liberal compassion? And who was the first one (seeing as how you're number 2)?

In my opinion the issue comes down to freedom. How does God govern? Does he force us to pay our tithes? Does he force us to be kind? Does he force us to give to charity or help a neighbor with car problems? No. Does he want us to help? I think He makes it pretty clear that he does. So my question is, if the goal is to be Christian, why in the world would we want force people to be 'charitable' through mandatory means like increased taxes?

Besides, charity through taxes separates the individual from the actual help lessening the power of individual to express their Christianity through charity. I would rather keep the money and help people I know personally with my extra resources.

Whats more important, spreading money around through a secular government bureaucracy? Or allowing individual Christians to identify and help people in Christ's name themselves? Which method spreads the Love of Jesus Christ faster, farther and more effectively?

Would you want your children to be obedient because they feared your whip, or because they loved you?

Do you trust the Spirit of God enough to move individuals to benevolence? I do. And because I do I don't need my government regulating my charitable activities through taxation.

Liberals typically like and promote bigger government and more government programs. More regulation etc. Republicans usually (though not during the last 10 years or so) typically promote less government and lower taxes. While Im very frustrated with both parties my favorite candidates are typically Republican.... oh darn... I guess Im not a REAL Christian then. And if Im not a REAL Christian I must be going to hell. sooo... you should probably change the title of this hub to "You're going to Hell if you Vote Republican".

I know many good, charitable, CHRISTIAN people who are also Liberal. And I know many who are conservative. To be frank, your disingenuous interpretation of God's Word is disgusting to me, but I do believe you are a REAL Christian and I admire your courage in writing this Hub, however wrong I think you are. You seem very confused, Revelator. Here are just a few examples: (1) It is obviously ridiculous to suggest that no Republicans are interested in the poor or do anything to take care of them. I know many Christians who vote Republican who not only do pro-life sidewalk work, but work in homeless shelters and soup kitchens. (2) Just because someone votes Republican (or Democrat)does not mean they endorse everything every Republican (or Democrat) in office does. No candidate is perfect. (3) Take a look at Hillary and Bill Clinton's records with Communist China before you criticize the Republicans. (4) A reality of life is that wealthy people create the jobs that keep most of the rest of employed. If they are taxed enough they will move their business elsewhere, and we will be unemployed. But this isn't just about the uber-rich; it's about the average small-business owner, who according to the Obama administration is now "rich."

Seriously, Revelator, you do not have most of your facts straight, and painting an entire group with the same brush is ignorant and irresponsible.

One of the greatest sins a man can do is part of the Democrat Platform.....They are for ABORTION - killing of innocent babies. 1. God would never sanction the killing of innocent babies.

2. God is not against charity and the poor, but benevolence and good will belong to the Church and not the Government. Benevolence should come from a free will and not forced taxes. God is not against the Church helping those who have fallen on hard times; we all are subject to hard times, but he is against laziness and those who make it a habit of not working. The Bible teaches that if a man won't work he shouldn't eat.

3. God is against a mounting deficit. The Bible says to owe no man anything except to Love. The Bible also says in Proverbs that the borrower is servant to the lender. That speaks of Bondage.

4. I am a Hispanic who was fed the lie that we only vote for Democrats until I grew up and realized how the Democrats use the different groups to get them into power. I hate what Welfare has done to the different communities. Someone once said, "Give a man a fish and he'll have food for a day; teach a man to fish and he'll have food for a lifetime." Welfare never teaches anything. I saw it with my own eyes. You know not what you speak of.

My point on welfare is that it is the job of the Church to help the helpless and not the government and yes,they are two different entities. Remember the dems favorite motto...."separation of church and state." According to you, Government should continue taking everyones' tax money to accomplish God's agenda of feeding the poor, but according to the democrats own arguments, "you shouldn't cram religion down everyones' throat or you can legislate morals," or is that only good for the Republicans. Again, it is you and not I who want it both ways. You want Republicans not to legislate morals but then want to legislate morals and God's agenda of feeding the poor via the Government. I am not against the poor....I've been poor most of my life. I Just believe the Bible instructs the church to feed the poor....Do you not have a rebuttle for that Biblical truth? You keep saying 19 million children live in poverty, but 50 million children have been aborted. Aren't you against Abortion? By the way, Poverty in America is not the same as Poverty in other Countries. Even our 19 million Poverty stricken people have running water, indoor toilets, electricity, cell phones, cable, etc. My wife just met a little girl from Guatemala who was brought here via some Republicans so they could help her with some health issues. She was in Awe of all her sponsors had; I mean she smiled ear to ear and they were poor.

Friend, I vote my values. As A Christian I am against Abortion and using our tax payer dollars to fund that. You have totally skipped over that. Aren't you for saving those poor innocent babies' lives?

I also live my values. If someone is in need and I can personally help, I do. I'm starting to realize that you aren't a Christian and that because you want others to feed the poor (Bill Gates, Warren Buffet). You keep mentioning the Super Rich. That's why you want higher taxes for them. As long as those taxes don't affect you. Where's you hate for abortion or welfare because it enslaves people to poverty? You want the Super Rich to give to the poor because it benefits you. Why don't you go out there and become rich and then give to the poor and ask the government for higher taxes? You want the rich and poor on the same level, but that is Communism and that leads to total poverty and laziness because the poor people don't have to work because they still get fed. Eventually, you don't have anymore rich because they get tired of working for everyone else and then the country collapses like Russia did. I used to vote Republican because I'm against abortion but when Bush went and declared war on a sovereign nation (Iraq)without any justifiable provocation I said no more. Now granted, Saddam was a horrible person, but it is not our business to be the world's policeman or policewoman.

I agree that christians should feed the hungry, give shelter to the poor and oppressed.

The question is, whose duty is it to satisfy these objectives. Conservatives say it is the individual and the churches responsibility, not the nations job via taxation. Hunger and homelessness is getting worse by the day, which shows me that this model is failing. Liberals believe that giving to private organizations, food banks, homeless shelters and religious organizations are also good ways of helping the less fortunate.

Isaiah chapter 58, states that it is the nations job to feed the poor. Conservatives are wrong on this issue as well as many others.

Scott, what part of Isaiah 58 do you disagree with. It is God speaking directly to the nation of Israel regarding the poor. They try to draw near to God by fasting yet he turns his back on them because he wants them to feed the poor, set the oppressed free and care for the less fortunate.

The Lords Prayer states, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So, as it is in heaven, God cares for us who are receiving his generosity freely, liberally giving to us, entitlements as the conservatives would say. Therefore I will follow his lead on earth.

Survival of the fittest is not modeled after Christianity, it is Darwinism. Most conservatives I know are socialist on Sunday only, the rest of the week they are a hybrid of Darwin and Christ which I call vulture-Christianity.

I am a registered Republican, but the way the republican party is today, I find it hard to be for any of todays greed candidates. They are mean spirited, backstabbing bullies and are more interested in putting their rivals down than discussing the issues. They are for the RICH only and it's been said that 'if a person is not contributing ($$) to society, he basically has no value. The church is SUPPOSED to be FOR the poor, the widow and the orphan and to fight for justice! Yet Republicans are for getting rid of programs that help the elderly and the real poor who want to work (not freeload). They are for the wallstreet crooks and BIG banks by deregulating. How 'bout the 'Flat tax' GREAT for the rich, but it would kill the middle class....taking deductions and all would be out the window. I remember Cheney talking as if the republican politicians were the 'New Royalty' with the money they 'deserved', he said "It's our due" and I quote. So many folks in my church are 'blindly' republican. They HATE Pres. Obama and that's all they can see. They are not informed on any issues and would vote republican if Mickey Mouse were a candidate. They only see a couple of issues that 'prove' being a republican is right, and that is the issue of Pro Choice and the Gay Rights..........they forget, sin is sin. God does NOT qualify sin..."Oh yes, this one is FAR worse than that one"...NO we are all equal at the foot of the cross!! People could never obey all of the law, because if you broke one TEENEY bit, you were/are guilty of all. That is why Jesus went to the cross because NONE of us could do this, 'we ALL sin and fall short of the Glory of God'. So why then are the Republicans the 'Christian Party? I am a thinking, praying Christian who has done a lot of missionary work and can see what greed has done in other parts of the world and I do NOT want that here!

Liberals are not pro-abortion; they are pro- choice. This means the government should not be making the decision. I am very pro- choice; my choice for me is anti- abortion. The Bible says nothing directly about homosexuality; however, it is explicit about divorced people who remarry. Why aren't Republicans condemning divorced people and denying them marriage? Seems inconsistent to me. If a liberal is someone who promotes change, then the Bible is full of liberals including Jesus. Those who did not look onward and upward were punished for the most part in the Bible I read!

As a non-Christian, you may very well not welcome my opinions, but I have a more than cursory knowledge of the Bible (have read it cover to cover twice.)

Those who have posted comments saying that charity should not be legislated, but should come from each individual's choice do not have a working knowledge of the Old Testament. True, this isn't Jesus saying it, but the Israelites were required, every 7 years to forgive all debts. They were also told to help those who become poor so that they can continue to live among them.

The likely reason that New Testament writings did not support legislating to help others is because the Jews did not have their own government, but were under Roman rule. But he did famously tell people to give unto Caesar that which is Caesar's - in other words, pay your taxes.

Also, since, throughout the gospels, Jesus socialized with prostitutes, he could not have held strong aversions to abortion - as it wasn't uncommon among such people even then.

Liberal ideology (not identical to that of Democrats) is about letting people do what they want, but also have empathy toward their fellow man, to level the playing field so that everyone gets equal opportunities.

Republican ideology (this is related but separate to conservative views) relies on using psychological methods of marketing, outright lies and propaganda in order to get people to vote for a group that does not truly support any of their interests (unless they're white, rich and male.) And in the New Testament I read, Jesus despised hypocrisy and wealth most of all.

Deut 15:1-3

1 "At the end of every seventh year you must cancel the debts of everyone who owes you money.

2 This is how it must be done. Everyone must cancel the loans they have made to their fellow Israelites. They must not demand payment from their neighbors or relatives, for the Lord's time of release has arrived.

3 This release from debt, however, applies only to your fellow Israelites—not to the foreigners living among you.

If you just listen to Democrats they will show you things from the Bible then HIDE what it's really saying.

Forgiving debts is applied to those who CAN'T REPAY their debts because there is just no way to repay them. In America you can then file for bankruptcy. However, REAL Christians must not be deceptive when not repaying a debt. They MUST ALWAYS be truthful and not lie just because paying the debt is cramping their lifestyle.

Then if you look at verse 3 in that portion of Scripture it says...

3 This release from debt, however, applies only to your fellow Israelites—not to the foreigners living among you.

So for REAL Christians this debt applies ONLY to other REAL Christians and NOT to anyone that is NOT a REAL Christian.

That's why REAL Christians should vote Republican because America needs HONESTY and INTEGRITY and NOT give power again to a CONTINUOUS CON-ARTIST.

what i find the most disturbing is how the republican party declares themselves to be the party of christian values.be very afraid if you do not vote republican you will be sentenced to an eternity of hell brimestone and fire. they use fear tactics yet they dont follow the teaching of christ.in the books of the gospel jesus set an example of how we are to live.he fed the multitudes,healed the sick(regardless of ability to pay) visited those in prison,he did not keep company with kings and the wealthiest but with prostitutes and tax collectors.he warned of anybody hurting children.he did not preach wealth was a blessing from god rather the first shall be last and the last shall be first.i just cant believe jesus would support everybody carring a gun around with them appointing themself judge and jury over anothers life. the difference is democrates do not go around claiming themselves gods chosen but just the opposite saying because everyone has a right to their own belief seperation of church and state to protect the sanctity of religion.what is people dont understand about love and respect one another?i also notice in reading comments from the far right the anger and hatred they show.this is fear.try reasonably debating issues .

I just can't believe Jesus would want anyone to appoint themselves judge and jury over an unborn child to murder them. And that is what it is....Murder. Jesus kept company with ALL kinds of sinners for the specific reason of showing them His love and the consequences of sin. He never promoted prostitution, homosexuality, gay marriages, or requiring the rich to pay more taxes. What is promoted in the Bible is HARD WORK not laziness with entitlements. All these are promoted by the Democratic Party.

I am a registered Democrat and have been accused of being unchristian because of it. Abortion is one of the reasons. I am not pro abortion, but I am for the poor, both physically and spiritually. BUT allthat said...Jesus loved and we as Christians should talk about Jesus and what he did for us rather than all the things we are 'against'. Jesus ate with SINNERS (prostitutes, gays, thieves, corrupt politicians..) he loved them and SHOWED the God...Sin IS sin..whether it's killing babies or greed and maybe there are things that WE should be handling instead of leaving it to the government!!!!! Or jod as Christians is to take care of the 'Widow and the Orphan' and fight injustice where we find it and to lead people to Jesus who LOVES everyone and died for them!! I only quoted Proverbs 12:14 to show what the Bible has to say that hard work brings rewards. As to hard working people losing their SS benefits wouldn't you have to find out the reason WHY they had to go on SS? Some companies had to close down because of FAR TOO MANY IMPOSED Democratic government regulations and since the President seems to have closed his eyes to the REAL PROBLEM he is going to impose MORE COSTLY REGULATIONS causing more shut downs and more hard working people shoved out into the food stamp community. I acknowledge that Obama made it easier to qualify for eligbility for food stamps but is that because HE KNEW what his type of socialist government would bring? Take a GOOD LOOK at where socialism has led the world. If people who have money and don't see it viable to invest it toward something that would benefit them then who would be silly enough to throw away their money? If it were me, (and it's not) I would rather throw it away on pleasures while the Democratic ship sinks.

As for Jesus, of course He loved and while He spent time with the worst of sinners, He never, affirmed their sin. He ALWAYS exhorted people to REPENT (change their ways) and do what is RIGHT. This can be pointed to ALL branches of gov't. I'm just saying the way of the present Democrats will make the US under the control of other nations such as China.

I have not in all my years seen greed , and corruption in government like I have in the last three and a half years under the Democrat reign of power.Pay offs to states to pass the health Care bill , The health Care bill contained More pork / payoffs than any 100 bills in the history of the country. What ever happened to to Obama's pledge to eliminate control of congress by the special interest groups ? What ever happened to uniting America ? Obama seems to play the race card himself time and time again. No one is allowed to say negative things about his wife , and other democrats , yet if something is said about a Tea party , or Republican woman you don't hear a word from him. I say if Obama wants to talk the talk, He should walk the walk. He gave us change alright , More corruption than this country has ever seen. We need people to serve our country who truly care.

"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would Yes we are to take care of those who are "widows indeed" (1Tim 5:16) God did a perfect job preserving His word in the KJV Bible....Rewriting the bible for democratic or republican purposes is warned about in the gospels by Christ Himself..(Mat5:18.Luke 16:17) Christ came to Earth to do the will of His Father which was to provide himself the Sacrificial Lamb to pay OUR sin debt. Yes..by all means, feed the poor. Yes, teach the man or woman to fish. This is the fruit a Christian bears. But still, our works are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). I have never read of voter registration at the pearly gates of New Jerusalem. The only vote that counts is yielding to the convicting spirit of the Holy Ghost and accepting Christ as your Lord and Saviour. (That vote counts. If you honestly are convinced every Republican is destined for Hell, it sounds to me that you should be witnessing the original gospel of Christ. to them. After being presented the gospel of Christ by a missionary, spiritual leader Mahatma Ghandi responded to the witness "If you truly believe what you say, you should be willing to crawl on your hands and knees through shards of broken glass to keep your loved ones out of the hell of which you speak".

Well even though I don't see the KJV Bible as the only Bible acceptable at the pearly gates OR in the Scriptures, I do see your other points for Christians regarding spirituality but while we are still on this earth we still have a moral responsibility to seek for a moral government and that is up to the individual Christian to decide what is moral in their view.

I see it as the poor will ALWAYS be on THIS earth, until Christ returns to deal with it. Until then, we should do our best to help them BUT NOT be required to help them. The help must come from the heart NOT by coercion.

My point in support of the Rebublican comes from seeing them as closer to Christian Biblical standards than the Democrats. They are NOT God's Party, but they are closer to God's standards.

Jesus never commented on abortion. I'd like to ask you why you keep throwing "abortion" into the mix. The sixth commandment did not encompass "abortion" and if you feel it did, please do provide documentation supporting that abortion is included in the "murder" commandment.
