Why do Christians go to CHURCH?

This might seem like a silly question, but based on the level of Christian hypocrisy it really isn’t.

What do I mean by Christian hypocrisy?  Well 80% of all Americans claim to be Christians and yet America is the only western democracy without universal healthcare, 8 million American children have no healthcare, 19 million American children live in poverty, America spends more on war and the military than all the other countries, 195 combined, America has over 1,000 foreign military bases and America is the only country currently occupying two foreign countries, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett and 400 American billionaires pay a lower income tax rate (17% IRS) than a fireman married to a nurse. These are not exactly Christian facts.  In fact America is not really a Christian country at all based on the facts.  It is a country of Christian Hypocrites.

The math is staggering – 80% of 300 million Americans would mean about 240 million Americans believe in and follow the instructions of Jesus.  No reasonable person can accept this as true based on our society and our laws.

So why do over half those that claim to be Christians go to church almost every Sunday?

I did a little survey of friends and the following are some of the honest answers I got.

1.    I go to worship God

2.    I go because it makes me feel good

3.    I go because I was taken as a child and going to church is a part of what I do

4.    I go because I like the social aspect, I am with people who agree with me on most things

5.    I like being a part of something bigger than myself

6.    I go because I want to go to heaven when I die

7.    I go because you have to go to church if you are a good Christian

All good reasons, but hardly any of them mean you are a good Christian.  I think the real problem we have in America is our total dishonesty when it comes to who is and who isn’t a Christian.  We allow people like George Bush and Dick Chaney to claim they are Christians and we all know this isn’t true based on the facts.  But even worse we allow many if not most of those who go to our church to claim they are Christians and we know for sure they are not.

Millions watch the Christian performers on TV, they false prophets of the media – Pat Robertson, Rick Warren and Joel Osteen.  These so-called ministers are not preaching the message of JC.  They don’t demand their followers follow the instructions of JC.

To be a Christian you must follow the instructions of Jesus Christ.  Most of those who go to church don’t even make an attempt to do this.  When they say they are Christians they are lying, yet no one “rebukes” them for this lie.

Jesus told us all:

Jesus tells us to “Rebuke” Sinners

( rebuke - defined in Merriam-Webster’s on-line dictionary

1 a : to criticize sharply : REPRIMAND b : to serve as a rebuke to
2 : to turn back or keep down : CHECK)

Luke 17:3-4

3"Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.

4"And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' forgive him."

Matt 18: 15-17

15” Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that the mouth of two witnesses every word maybe established.

17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.”

1Timothy 5:20 “Them that sin rebuke before all, that others may fear.”

We all know this NEVER happens.  The church will take any one that gives a few bucks and wants to attend.  Why do so-called Christians allow this?

Christians go to church in America for a lot of reasons most have nothing to do with believing in Jesus Christ or following his instructions.

I am Christian yet I do not go to any church.

I love God and Jesus and I pray alone, away from others, often while among others *though they don't know it. I pray at home, in my car, in my shower, at work, where ever I feel to pray or for whomever passes me by and I feel the spirit to pray for them, I do so. I do not belong to any "denomination." But I am Christian.

I do not have health care. I do not contribute to any church but I give 'hand to hand' to the needy, homeless and those that ask for help, when and where they appear to me. (I do so because when I have given to institutions, they never seem to make it to the needy hands but only to the greedy hands)

God can be found-as well as Christians outside of brick walls-though I believe that there are some truly great churches of God out there that do follow the Holy Bible.

Thanks for the read!
