Does carrying a gun make you safer?
This could be are argument for owning and carrying a hand gun. Those who are in favor of no laws restricting guns claim having a gun increases their safety.
The World Health Organization study in 2009 found the following:
· Murder rates in USA were 4 per 100,000
· Murder rates in Western Europe 1 per 100,000
What if anything does the above mean? There are a few things we can say for sure.
· USA is more violent than Western Europe by a factor of 400 %
· USA has 4 times as many murders as Western Europe
FACT: 90 million Americans own over 300 million guns. Most Americans do not own a gun.
What are the basic means of murder in USA? Guns! Most murders in USA are committed by gun, not just any gun – hand guns.
Guns don’t kill people, people with guns kill people. The facts show it is difficult if not impossible to kill a human being, one of God’s creatures with a gun if you can’t get a gun.
Most murders in Western Europe are done without hand guns. The weapons include knives, clubs and someone strangles someone, and yes a few by gun, etc.
Is it easier to kill someone with a gun? Yes!
Is it easier for a child to kill themselves with a hand gun than a knife, club, punch, etc., oh yes and anyone with an ounce of honesty would agree with this conclusion?
Does the fact that most Western European countries have strict hand gun laws make a difference in the murder rate? Well let’s see maybe it is longitude and latitude and not having a gun? Nope, that isn’t why – it is the fact any nut-job can own a gun in America and most nut-jobs in America do own guns.
Some things we can actually say for sure are you are 4 times more likely to get shot if you carry a gun than if you don’t carry a gun. So if you want to reduce you chance of getting shot, don’t carry a gun.
University of Pennsylvania researcher Charles Branas has tried a new tack - employing methods normally used by epidemiologists to study cancer and other diseases to answer a simple question; are you safer if you carry a gun?
His answer is NO! In fact you are 4 times less safe.
Branas studied the shootings in Philadelphia over the period 2003 to 2006. There were 3,485 shootings and he selected at random 677 shootings to study. 91% of those who were shot were not at home. The study determined that people who were carrying a gun were 4 times more likely to get shot than those who don’t carry a gun.
Some people who were shot didn’t have a gun, but times as many people who were shot did.
“The Philadelphia police have no official position on whether citizens should arm themselves for protection. Spokesman Frank Vanore said they do see people who have their own guns turned on them.”
“The U.S. has a far higher per capita rate of gun violence than any other developed country, he said. If guns really made us safer, Bryan Miller, executive director of Ceasefire NJ said, "we should be the safest country on Earth."
Will that make any difference in our guns laws? Nope! We in America love guns more than Jesus Christ.

I will keep my comment rather short and I did not read your hub. It is a question that I feel very safe in answering but alarmed that we live in a world where people might think otherwise. The answer is no. It will always be no.
Actually, I flicked over. Thanks. You agree. I still will not read the whole thing. it is nearly 4am. I will come back :)
Maybe I won't come back. You lost me with the Jesus avatar. Good luck.
